Project Evaluation

1. Write an explanation of your brief - what did you have to do? How did you come up with the ideas for this project?  Write about the creative 'journey' of the project - how did the project and ideas evolve from start to finish through experimentation and research?
We first started analysing illustration artists and creating observational drawings  inspired by their style of work, the artists we looked at were Georgina Luck and Matthew Midgley had the completion of dark fine liners added to their work, Luck using more vibrant colours in her work and a technique which is not precise such as the splatters of ink to her work. Natsko Seki includes hand drawn backgrounds with image cut outs to create a landscape. The magazine page layout I did for the Illustration artists included images of their work, the brush stroke outlines I did around the different sections was to represent illustration.
Hennrik Bonnieveir Shoot

We then created to different photo shoots  in a group inspired by Andrea Bricco and Hennrik Bonnevier, Briccos work had hand drawn backgrounds relating to a certain object in her photo added she was inspired by food which is why most of her work had plates of food included with a landscape created using food. Bonnevier created thought out compositions and layout in his photos using objects. We created out own photo shoot inspired by Briccos work using cosmetic products and using some of them to draw in the background. The Bonnevier shoot we used the same cosmetic products but having a plain background and rearranging the objects.

The different adverts we analysed started to give me an idea of how to set out my advert design, the composition I had to think about and what size and type of font I wanted to use. The first advert I designed was lacking colour and creativity so I designed a new advert using Kate Moross and Stephen Sprouse as inspiration they both had a strong element of colour and graffiti like creation, which is what I was trying to convey in my advert.  I created the background in Photoshop using the Brush Tool.

FINAL ADVERT DESIGN

The feature spread I decided to do about fashion different outfits, I developed a mind map of different magazines layouts as inspiration, a mood board and a photo shoot I took photos of a model wearing different outfits but cropped her head out and instead added a robot head. I found an advert in a magazine with drawings of people with animal heads, instead of drawing I used actual photos of someone and edited on Photoshop to add the ROBO head designs which I did using a thin Brush Tool size.

3. Who inspired your final outcomes? - You MUST talk about who has inspired your work - include images and links where possible.
For most of my pages in my magazine I found Kate Moross and Stepen Sprouse work most inspiration and related to my work best, mainly my Advert and Front cover. Their use of various colours and dark outlines was attractive and worked well in making the pages stand out. My feature spread was inspired by a page layout in a arts magazine about design which I thought worked well with my Fashion feature spread.
4. What do you think you have done well? What has worked? Are you happy with your final outcomes?
I think my front cover works well its simple but stands out also the colours in the photo are attractive. Also my feature spread I think works well with the Fashion intention presentation and how I used the ROBO heads to represent the outfits. I'm not pleased with my final outcome because I think I could of experimented more with the layouts and used different compositions to show more creativity.

5. What do you think you could have improved in your final outcome? - you need to talk about something, nobody is perfect!
I could improve on the way I lay out my pages and use other magazine spreads as inspiration to have an idea of what kind of theme I'm going for, for example my Illustration page the font and background I could of used my own illustrations as background that relate to their work.
6. Conclusion - overall how did you find the project? Would you like to use any of the skills or techniques in the future?
Overall I am satisfied with how my final outcome came out, some of the techniques I used on Photoshop to edit photos I will try to experiment with and use again. In the future I may try to analyse other magazines and page layouts to create a better and more creative magazine.

FRONT PAGE

FEATURE PAGE

ADVERT

Photo Shoot Page

Illustration Page

Photoshoot page layout

The background of my Photo shoot page was made by selecting rectangles and changing the outline into brush stroke textures and the uniform of the line border instead of it begin straight its diagonal, I continued with this and did it for each corner of the page.
The font for the titles is Rockwell, the colours I made opposite to the background colour.
I place the images of the artists as well as the photos we took in class and boarded the with brush stroke lines.
The font is Bangla Sangam MN, the size I change the more text I included starting with 9 to 12.

Front page

LOGO
The logo will be a simple black outline because I'm planning for the background to be colorful images so the logo will stand out against it all.

IDEA 1
 Original photo
I edited the photo on Filter adding a sketch Water Paper effect, which made the color on the image brighter and vibrant. I placed the logo in the right hand corner because the left hand corner was too dark, the actual name of the magazine which is Tradition Movement in Century font is at the bottom in white because I thought made the text stand out. This is my first design for my front cover the theme or concept I am going for is portrait photo of a person representing cultural diversity i.e the colorfulness of cultures.

Magazine name\logo design

Different designs I did by hand, the one I like most was this.
I will try to develop this idea by hand and also experiment on Photoshop try to make it 3D with shadows. The colour I want to be bold and simple thick black outline with one of the primary colours red, yellow or blue.

I drew the robot heads on Photoshop by using the brush tool.
Sometimes change the size of the brush to add detail on the features of the head such as the mouth and eyes.
Simply trying to keep a straight line to draw the head shape.

Edited photos with the background cleared and the added robot heads.

Page layouts
With the completed images I placed them on the page.

The font I used to write the information about the clothes on the robot heads was OCR Std.
